October 27, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Arts in Motion-
This program combines an introduction to art books, linking the concepts of spatial design, contrast, texture, line, shading, color and other art elements and draws a parallel to the same concepts in a dance, through a dance presentation. Books presented will include books on painting, drawing, sculpture, architecture, music, and dance. Dancers will demonstrate how they use their body as a tool, and share their experiences with the audience. Participants will also be shown where to find art books in the library.
November 10: 3:30-4:30 p.m. Visual Arts to Expression
This program focuses on actual painters and the expression found within the painting. Books introduced will center on painters such as Renoir, Matisse, Picasso, Tarkay and other Impressionist and Modern artists. The dancers will perform a choreographed module titled Exhibits that begins with the dancers taking the pose of a specific painting; as they dance, they give it life and share their interpretation of the art work with the audience. Also painting techniques will be introduced, such as water color, oil, gouache and collage; these techniques will be paralleled to dance techniques such as ballet, modern and jazz.
December 15: 3:30-4:30 p.m. Staging the Arts- Nutcracker Highlights
This program adds theatrical and stage effects to the dance presentation. Dancers will relay a story through the genre of ballet, telling it without words but through theatrical medium including lights, special effects, costumes, dance and gestures. Dancers will present National dances from Nutcracker, the Plum Fairy Pas-de-deux and the snow scene. Books introduced include plays, poetry, literature and authors.
PARC’s outreach and education programs are intended to expand the perspectives of participants, and encourage them to develop an appreciation of dance and theater. PARC offers educational and recreational programs in schools and nursing homes.
PARC provides group leaders and teachers with written materials in advance of the performances, and also visits for lecture, discussions and demonstrations prior to the performances to enhance the children’s understanding of the stories and elements of performing arts.
PARC also takes pride in bringing divertissement to, and a much needed smile on the faces of, nursing home residents.

Bringing the arts to the community through outreach is a core focus for PARC. On Sunday, November 12th, at the Sterling Community Center Annex in Sterling, Virginia, 65 girl scouts from the Sterling Service Unit Troop 3401 learned about the history of ballet, completed a short dance program with Ballet Academy dancers and experienced a preview of the Dec. 1, 2006 winter show.

Several dancers, including Kasey Ramirez, 7 of Adelphi, Sarah Lake 11 of Greenbelt, Lucy Erickson, 20 of College Park assisted her in telling the history of dance, discussing shoes and costumes, and demonstrating foundational ballet moves.
Ballet Academy dancers (Alexandra Miller, Ashley Stefun, Melissa Stefun, Christina O'Brien, Bridget Cornett, Sophie Meath, Jenna Craver, Samantha Lint, Jessica Eng, Lucy Erickson, Holly Meath, Laura Boyer, Nicole Craver, Andrea Carpentieri, Mary Shelley, Hannah Erickson, Daniel Grűnberg, Mischa Grűnberg, Eli Miller, Caitlin Schwatka and Nicole Schwatka) helped teach the basic moves to the scouts, as they worked through stretching and a company class. The dancers then performed pieces from the winter program, including Petite Fleur, Fall and Winter Seasons, Who Cares, Exhibits: Renoir, Matisse, Tarkay, Picasso, Nutcracker Pas de Deux and Bon Bons. Through this outreach program, the scouts earned their Brownies, Dancercize badge, Jr. Dance, Invitation to Dance IP Badge.
